Clarke’s participatory videos reflect a massive range of human experience and feeling, from tear-jerking reflections on modern romance, to teenagers video chatting in the dawn of the internet age, and a friendship documented through video correspondence in One on One. With rarely seen tapes recorded at locations including the World Trade Center, Los Angeles high schools, and a men’s prison in Chino, California, Clarke’s projects intimately document diverse perspectives on American life and culture from the 1970s through the 1990s.
