Biography

An Egyptian poet and writer, born in the village of Abnoud, Qena Governorate, in 1938, before he moved with his family to the city of Qena. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Arabic Language from Cairo University, and was well versed in the Arabic language. He formed a creative trio with Amal Dunqul and Yahya Al-Taher, and they wrote classical poetry in the early sixties, after which he turned into colloquial poetry, which was turned into many songs for the most prominent singers, including Abdel Halim Hafez, Mohamed Roushdy and Shadia. He also wrote the lyrics of many TV series, such as Mountain Wolves and Al-Nadim. He wrote different stories about his life in Upper Egypt, which were published in separate episodes in Al-Ahram newspaper, and were collected in the book My Sweet Days, which was published in three parts. He passed away on April 21, 2015 at the age of 76.
