Pierre, a forty-year-old man, has just been discharged from the clinic in which he was treated for alcoholism. The first thing he does is to try to make it up with his wife, a waitress in a bar. But, having suffered too much from his violence, she refuses. Then Pierre decides to leave his town and to settle down in the middle of nowhere. In the paper he finds an ad for a room to rent in a villa. The white house is ideally situated in a peaceful environment at the foot of a mountain.
