Whitman provides an intimate glimpse into many of her various personae (a young child named Genie; 18 year-old Anton; Gibbon; Meticulous; and others), and director Chandler has shown great sensitivity to her extraordinary subject, and the film is by turns startling, shocking, and inspiring.
