This gothic psycho-supernatural thriller that tells the story of an alienist, Grace Burnham (Amber Heard), that travels to a remote village in the 1890s to help a little boy, Martin Marquez (Lorenzo Zaini), exhibiting behavioral peculiarities that the villagers believe are behind their recent misfortunes is as good an indie film of its kind as you're ever going to watch. The performances, the production design, the scenery, and the costumes all work impressively together to support the film's narrative and its philosophical premises.
